Moed B Store
A unique second-hand store opened at the Technion in 2014. Located in a building near the parking lot at the Rabin Building within the Faculty of Environmental and Civil Engineering, the store was founded by the faculty head, Irit Inbar. It aims to foster a collaborative community and promote social responsibility and smart consumerism. Initially established in the laboratory foyer, which doubled as a classroom, the store allowed for donations and sales of clothing and accessories. With the help of store manager Ronit Paran and many volunteers, the store has grown into a Technion institution. It now occupies multiple rooms and offers a wide variety of items such as furniture, books, bags, decorative pieces, and more, all at affordable prices. The store’s proceeds support a fund that helps students facing financial hardship.
The textile industry has a significant environmental footprint, impacting various aspects of the ecosystem. This includes land use and pesticide pollution from cotton cultivation, use of hazardous chemicals in fabric dyeing, excessive water consumption, reliance on nylon and plastic for packaging, and carbon emissions from transportation. However, these environmental harms can be significantly reduced by adopting sustainable practices such as reuse, mindful consumption, and responsible shopping choices.
