The Dormitory Trail

Kfar HaHasmacha Dormitories
A historic spot on campus.
The Technion was one of the first academic institutions to establish dormitories for students on campus. The 14 Rifkin buildings were the first dormitories, at the current location of the Technion campus in Neve Sha’anan. The buildings were erected in the 1950s by architect Daniel Chavkin. The terraced construction in the dormitory complex was considered groundbreaking and won accolades and awards.
Over the years, additional dormitories were constructed on campus, with the latest refinement of this model in this location. Initially, two buildings, similar to the Rifkin dormitories, were built in a stepped design. However, due to maintenance challenges, the project was deemed unsuccessful. As a result, the Technion decided to demolish these buildings and replace them with four new structures, now known as Kfar HaHasmacha dormitories.
The four buildings of Kfar HaHasmacha are the newest addition to the old neighborhood. The 500 students living in here benefit from advanced accessibility services in and around the buildings.
