Lokey Garden

The Lokey Garden was established in 2007 in memory of Lori Lokey, a valued donor and friend of the Technion. Situated on a hillside, it leads up to the Technion Forest. The winding path through the garden features seating areas surrounded by vegetation and natural woodland. The forest, consisting of approximately 40,000 cypress and pine trees, was planted beginning in the late 1950s to help preserve the natural landscape and serve as a ‘green lung’ near the campus center.

With the opening of the Lokey Garden, a tradition was established in which visiting Nobel Prize winners were invited to plant a tree along the garden path, giving it the name, Nobel Prize Winner Path. This tradition honors Albert Einstein ceremoniously planting a date palm tree at the historic Hadar building in 1923 and commemorates the Technion’s opening on Tu BiShvat 1924. Former Technion President Prof. Peretz Lavie would bring new students to the path, sharing its story and concluding with: “This is your path, the path you must choose to follow”. Today, all visitors are welcome to participate in the tradition by planting a tree, symbolizing their connection to the Technion and the pursuit of growth.
