Rifkin Dormitories

The Technion was the first academic institution in Israel to establish on-campus student dormitories. The first dormitories on the Neve Sha’anan campus were the 14 Rifkin dormitories, designed by architect Daniel Chavkin, who later became Dean of the Faculty of Architecture. Built in the 1950s, the dormitory complex featured terraced construction, which was considered innovative at the time and received recognition and awards for its design.

The area around the Rifkin dormitories is heavily wooded, but fire safety regulations prohibit trees from being too close to the older buildings due to fire risk. As a precaution, regular tree pruning is carried out in the area.
